I had the privilege and the great opportunity to host a short term mission trip organized by Commit Ministry International in Romania, my home country. It was a new challenge to face although it wasn’t for the first time when I was hosting a short term. I’ve been trained, and more then once I was supervised by the senior and the founder of Commit Ministry International to host short term mission trips, and I must confess it’s a real joy and a real responsibility to be the host.
We, my wife and myself were hosting a team of young adults coming from Wyoming Prep School. As we had a rental bus all the team members were welcomed at the OTP airport in Bucharest, the capital City of Romania.
All the young adults were acting so nicely, and they were absolutely the perfect team to host.
As the trip was planned at the end of November, we decided that the best place for these wonderful young people to be , would be the Brasov area, the area of Bran Castle, known as Vlad Dracula’s, or Vlad the Impaler Castle. We planned alongside Commit Ministry International Director all the details of the trip, and we were very happy that we were able to host these young adults to a beautiful hotel, and we had introduce them to our Church in Brasov led by pastor Dan.
We also had the opportunity to visit a number of orphanages in the vicinity of Brasov City, through the team’s effort of Wyoming Prep School we manage to give away presents to the children, like school supplies, teddy bears, shoes, clothing, and so much more according to the orphans need. We were introduced to the children, and we were able to play with them, to play songs with them, to hug them. We also take part in the activities so much needed in the orphanage, and that was to crack walnuts for the kitchen of the orphanage, having in mind that the Christmas was so close and traditional Christmas Cookies are made with a lot of walnuts.
We were in a hurry to visit Bran Castle, and as it was the last activity of one given day – we managed to be the last group of visitors from Bran Castle in that day. We also visited the Brasov City where the American young adults were able to purchase souvenirs, and we’ve spent some time off in a pizza place downtown Brasov.
I would say that we had a great time together as a team, the young adults were immersed in the Romanian culture, cuisine and church. We had open street evangelism in an afternoon where we played group songs with a guitar in an open market. A powerful snow fall made that afternoon to come to an end.
Many years later, I still have a great feedback from them, as now they are grown-ups, remembering that old short term mission trip to Romania.
My regret, is that I wasn’t able to take them to the sea shore, to the Black Sea, but being a winter season, our time there it would have been a waste of time. Sea shore is perfect during summer time season.
